Prof. Eng. Abel Nyakundi Mayaka holds MSc. In Mechanical Engineering and a PhD in Technical Sciences (Mechanical) from Moscow Russia. He is registered Professional Engineer in Mechanical Engineering with the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK). Prof. Mayaka is a full professor of Manufacturing Engineering and serves as Dean Faculty of Engineering and Technology at the Multimedia University of Kenya. He also currently serving as a panelist to the Institution of Engineers of Kenya, Mechanical Engineering Professional Review Board.
Prof. Mayaka has over twenty five years of teaching and research at the university level. He has held various senior administrative responsibilities at the universities which include a Chairman of Department, Dean of Faculty, Chairman of various university and national technical committees and on acting capacity acted various positions of Deputy Vice Chancellor for various durations for Multimedia university of Kenya. He has also served as a member of Board of Management of various secondary schools and other social organization in Kenya as part of his Community Social Responsibility.
Prof. Mayaka has participated in various technical advisory committees and offered consulatancy services both at national and inter-national levels. External Examination for various public universities both locally and international that include Technical University of Mombasa, University of Eldoret, Egerton University Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) and University of Dar es salaam. Professor Mayaka has served as the chairman of Ministerial Inspection and Acceptance Committee of equipment procured in various universities in Kenya under the Ministry of Higher Education (HEST) and Africa Development Bank (AfDB) project. Peer Reviewer, of the review Panel for the Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering Level 8, National Council of fir Higher Education, Windhoek, Namibia, and for Mechanical Ph.D. and MSc Engineering Programs organized by the Commission of University Education (CUE) in Kenya. From May 2009 to 2010 he served as a Member of the Project: An African Manifesto on Science, Ethics and Technological Responsibility in Developing and Emerging Countries (SET-DEV), African Technology Policy Studies Network (ATPS). A project under the auspices of the EU Framework VII. . From Sept. 2007 to Feb. 2008 prof. Mayaka served as a member of “Credit Accumulation and Transfer (CAT) System for universities of East Africa” Project. A project coordinated by the Commission of Higher Education (CHE)”. In July 2007. Professor was a Chairman of Moi University Technical Committee revived RIVATEX EAST AFRICA a textile Factory located in Eldoret, Kenya.
He has also participated in various committees charged with the formulation of various administrative and management document including strategic plans for the universities. He has served as a scrutineer for the last IEK election, and oversaw the election process. He was a member of a five year IEK strategic Plan, 2019-2023.
Between 2008 and 2009, Prof. Mayaka as researcher worked at the Kenya Industrial Research and Development Institute, KIRDI, as a senior researcher and initiated several community based project which include Mini-Hydro power plants project in Western Kenya and limestone production projects in Wajir in Kenya.
For the last twenty four years prof. Mayaka has been actively involved in various national technical projects and carrying out research works in Manufacturing Engineering and related areas both individually and with other scholars including post graduate students. He is a member of Manufacturing and Technology Research Chair hosted by Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) in Kenya. He has over forty five publications in referred conference proceedings and journals. He has supervised and examined over twenty master and PhD students at universities and mentored over ten graduate engineers to become professional engineers in the area of Mechanical Engineering.
