Dean

Faculty of Engineering and Design

Kostiuk

Larry W. Kostiuk began a five-year term as Dean of Carleton University’s Faculty of Engineering and Design in July 2019, following more than 25 years at the University of Alberta in a series of increasingly senior roles, including Associate Vice-President – Research (2015 – 2018) and Director of Future Energy Systems (2016 – 2018) – a Canada First Research Excellence Fund program.

His research specializations include chemical reacting flows, combustion (flaring, premixed flame dynamics, and pool fires), pollutant formation and control, thermodynamics, micro- and nano-fluidics (continuum and non-equilibrium molecular dynamic modeling), and energy conversion systems.

Kostiuk’s research record has resulted in him being named Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering (2012) and Fellow of the Canadian Society for Mechanical Engineering (2011). His research group also won the Summit Award for Environment Excellence from the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists, Geophysicists of Alberta (2007).
